Abstract
EFFECTIVENESS OF THE THICKNESS OF FILTER MEDIA IN REDUCING MANGANESE (Mn) LEVELS IN WELL WATER OF THE RESIDENTS OF SULUREJO ABSTRACT Well water come from ground water is the source of life on earth. Problems were encountered, the quality of well water is less qualified as clean water such as manganese (Mn). The measurement results of Mn levels in the well water are 21.5390 mg/L, which can be said to exceed capacity standardized (0.5 mg/L). Filtration treatment can be reduced of manganese (Mn) by using activated charcoal, silica sand and zeolite. The purpose of this research is to analyze the effectiveness of filter media thickness in reducing manganese (Mn) levels in the well water of the residents of Sulurejo. This research method is true experiment with pretest-posttest with control group design. The population of this research is all the well water, with a total sample is 36 liters. Sampling technique with Quota Sampling. Statistical tests using One Way Anova with a significant value of 0.002 (p-value < 0.01), so that Ho is rejected. The results of the statistical test showed that there is a difference in the effectiveness of filtration processing at various thicknesses of filter media in reducing the level of manganese (Mn) in the well water of the residents of Sulurejo.
