Abstract
Introduction: People with mental disorders based on an analysis of health services totaling 14 million people are characterized by anxiety. There are many therapies that can be given to reduce anxiety and create a sense of comfort in mental patients, one of which is guided imagery therapy. Guided imagery therapy is a therapy that is a nursing therapy that is carried out by inviting participants to imagine happy things in their lives, thus encouraging the underside of the participants to create pleasure by visualizing in the participant's mind so that participants can forget the burden of thought felt. Objective: To explore information related to the experience of mental patients before and after the relaxation guide imagery. Research Methods: The research method used is qualitative with the Narrative inquiry approach. Respondents numbered 16 people, using early interviews and observations. The selection of respondents used the Non Probability sampling technique by taking a sample of proportions in each room based on the characteristics of the existing samples until the number of samples was reached. Characteristics of the sample used were adults, cooperatives and paranoid schizophrenics of more than 4 years. Results of the study: based on interviews the researchers obtained several themes that could be obtained through categorizing participant expressions totaling eight themes. The theme is the expression that participants are angry because of social factors, mental disorders resulting in anger, beating when angry, slamming things and shouting when angry, guided imegery gives the feeling given to calm the mind, relax the body, reduce emotions and fun. Conclusion: based on information from participants that before guided imagery therapy the cause of anger of participants was caused by two factors, namely social factors and mental disorders so participants showed their emotional response by hitting, slamming and screaming. The effect after doing guided imagery therapy was that respondents believed that guided imagery can calm the mind, relax the body, reduce emotions and be pleasant.
