Abstract
Companies and organizations in practice cannot avoid from the threat of a crisis. For this reason, companies and organizations need to prepare weapons such as words and key messages long time before the crisis comes. One organization that is inevitable from the threat of the crisis is the Indonesian government and parliament, where the polemic of the MD3 Law that occurred in early 2018 could threaten the reputation of the government. The purpose of this study is to determine the government and parliament's crisis response strategy toward the polemic of the MD3 Law through quantitative content analysis on the Kompas Daily news on February-April 2018 period. The categorization in Situational Crisis Communication Theory (SCCT) is used as a reference to measure government responsibility in responding to a crisis. From the analysis of 39 news, researchers found a discrepancy between the response strategy applied by the government and the crisis situation. The government and parliament dominantly used diminish crisis response strategies. Meanwhile according to the guidelines of the SCCT response strategy, a crisis situation such as what happened to the polemic of the MD3 Law would be more effectively controlled by a crisis response rebuild strategy.
