Abstract

The study aims to determine the relationship between an interpersonal communication and the mental toughness of football athletes. The hypothesis of the study is that there is a positive relationship between them. The sampling technique used on this study is cluster random sampling. The data is collected by using interpersonal communication and mental toughness measurement scale. The object of this study is 66 athletes of a football club in Surakarta out of 132 athletes. After the data is collected, the data is analyzed by using Pearson product-moment correlation which is run on a program called SPSS for 16 windows. Based on the result, the correlation coefficient is 0.722 and the significance level (p) is 0.000 (p < 0.01). It means that there is a very significant relationship between interpersonal communication and mental toughness of football athletes. The variable “interpersonal communication” has empirical mean (RE) which equals to 95.61, thus it is categorized as a high category. While, the variable “mental toughness” has empirical mean (RE) which equals to 155.62 which is also considered as a high category.
