Abstract

Breast cancer is a kind of cancer where mostly happen in woman. The high number of breast cancer cases forces for developing anticancer medicine which more selective in fighting the cancer cell without damaging the normal tissues. An alternative way in treating cancer by seeking sources of natural products which can be developed such as galangal (Alpinia galanga) and papaya (Carica papaya). This reasearch aims to find the potential for the ethanol extract combination of galangal (Alpinia galanga) with papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) against MCF-7 cell. Papaya leaves and galangal were extracted with meceration method using ethanol 96%. Cytotoxic test had been done using MTT assay method. Concentration Series of individual extract and combination that being tested were 500 ; 250 ; 125 ; 62,5 ; 31,25 µg/mL. The result of cytotoxic test against MCF-7 showed that the extract of papaya leaves did not have much activities, meanwhile for the extract of galanga had index IC50 score 99,842 µg/mL and the extract combination of papaya leaves-galanga 83,443 µg/mL. The combination of extract did not show significant improving activity against MCF-7.
