Abstract
Carburizing is defined as a process of adding carbon content to the steel surface to get a harder steel property on its surface. In this study the material used for making charcoal comes from acacia plants. Charcoal is a wood product that is obtained from the carbonization process, charcoal is risidu which most of its components are carbon and occurs due to decomposition of wood due to heat treatment. This research uses Shaker Mils in making particles. Shaker Mils are modified devices so that steel balls collide with each other with charcoal, with a motor speed of 1000 Rpm, for 2.5 million cycles with steel ball crushers that are ¼ inch in size. From this test the steel balls are then tested in the Microstructure test and Hardness Test. Microstructure testing aims to determine the phase found on the surface of steel balls before and after Carburizing treatment. The Hardness Test performed on steel balls aims to determine the value of hardness before and after Carburizing treatment. Keywords: Carburizing, Micro Structure and Hardness Test
