Abstract
his study aims to determine the effect of variations of bagasse fiber with phenolic resin matrix on the level of wear, hardness, and coefficient of friction as non-asbestos brake lining alternatives, on the results of brake padding hardness produced on the shore D scale, along with wear and coefficient of friction. This research uses bagasse fiber, barium sulfate (BaSo 4 ), calcium carbonate (CaCo 3 ), phenolic resin, blackcarbon, aluminum powder. Friction testing on 3 conditions, namely dry, water and oil, while the hardness test uses the ASTM D2240 standard. The hardness test results show that the addition of sugarcane pulp fiber will increase the hardness value because it has hard and ductile characteristics, this is shown in the variation of 3 grams of bagasse fiber that is 84.83 scale shore D. The best wear results in dry conditions at brake pad variations of 1 gram bagasse fiber are 136.40 mm 3 / hour, while in water conditions and oil the highest value of oil is in the variation of 3 grams of bagasse fiber which is 186, 41 mm 3 / hour and 77.29 mm 3 / hour. The best results Testing friction variations of 1 gram bagasse fiber obtained the coefficient of friction in dry and water conditions, namely 0.70 μ, and 0.69, and in the oil condition the highest coefficient value was in the variation of 3 grams of bagasse fiber which was 0.59, so additions could be described the right bagasse fiber will add to the value of hardness, reduce the wear value and increase the friction coefficient value of brake lining under certain conditions.
