Abstract

This research aims at revealing the innovation program carried out by the Head of Madrasah Tsanawiyah Negeri (MTs N) 1 Klaten in improving the quality of madrasah education in the school year of 2017/2018 and explaining the implementation of the innovation program. This type of research is a field research with a qualitative approach. The data collection method used is the method of observation, interviews and documentation. The data analysis used is the method of Miles and Hubberman with a deductive thinking framework. The results of this study are that there are several innovations carried out by the Head of MTs N 1 Klaten in order to improve the quality of education in the madrasa. The innovations carried out are as follows: 1) excellent class programs, 2) programs for improving facilities and infrastructure, 3) programs to improve the quality of human resources together and 4) planting programs on religious (Islamic) based character education. In the excellent class program, the Head of MTs N 1 Klaten also innovated in the curriculum field, namely by adding hours of lessons and adding material content to the class. In the field of infrastructure, the Head of MTs N 1 Klaten has a program to build a new building which is planned to be used for the addition of excellent classes and laboratory computers. In order to improve the quality of teachers, students and employees of madrasa together, the Head of Madrasa has a discipline-enforcing program in the madrasa environment, engages teachers in workshop activities and holds journalistic training for teachers and students. In addition, the Head of MTs N 1 Klaten also initiated instilling character education through based religion activities such as read the Qur’an, dhuha prayer, dhuhur prayer in congregation, short lecture and tahfid.
