Abstract

This study aims to find out the differences in mental toughness in athletes based on age, by sex, and based on competition experience. This study uses quantitative methods. The process of collecting data uses instruments in the form of mental toughness scale with reference to Jones's, Hanton's, and Connaughton's (2002) theory. Taking subjects with snowball sampling were 68 subjects, where researchers visited several sports clubs in the Ex-Karisidenan area of Surakarta, after meeting the subject the researcher asked to be introduced to the athlete's friends who were likely to be the subject of research, and so on until it was sufficient. The results of this study indicate that the mental toughness of athletes based on junior and senior age groups, as well as the distribution according to the level of competition experience does not give a difference. However, gender differences provide a significant difference in athletes' mental toughness.
