Abstract
Every parent wants to have children who have physically and mentally health. But some parents find their children born and grow up unable to hear (deaf). This study aims to understand the self-acceptance of parents who have deaf children. The problem formulation of this research is how self-acceptance of parents who have deaf children. This study uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data retrieval uses interview methods as the main method, observation and documentation to complete the interview results, to 5 informants consisting of one single-parent mother, one mother with elementary education, two high school educated mothers, and one mother whose son is deaf and not congenital. The results of this study indicate that the process of self-acceptance of mother who have deaf children through a series of processes / stages, namely 1) denial, the stage where the five informants reject the fact that their children are deaf, 2) anger, the stage where mothers feel angry with themselves, 3) bargaining, mother tries to comfort her own feelings and tries to overcome her disappointment by getting closer to Allah Subhanahuwata'ala, comparing the condition of other children who are more severe than their children, taking lessons that mothers are still blessed with children because there are people who want children but have not been blessed with children, while mothers who are single-parent (divorced) still feel sorry, 4) depression, all four mothers feel hopeless about their child's condition but there is one mother who feels innocent by the state of herself and her child, 5) acceptance, the stage where the mother can truly receive with sincerity and adjusting to the circumstances of the child needs time. It can take 2 years, when their children start school, while mother who is single-parent has not been able to receive fully, indicated by care given to their grandmother.
