Abstract
This study aims to describe the students' mistakes in solving the material questions of linear equations two variables and analyze the factors that cause student errors in solving two-variable linear equation material questions. This research is a qualitative descriptive study, involving 33 students from class X of Muhammadiyah 1 High School in Karanganyar. Data collection techniques in this study are interviews and documentation. The results of this study can be concluded that (1) there are no students who read the error in the story problem system of two variable linear equations. (2) comprehention error, students are not careful so they are wrong in changing the form of mathematics that is done because they are in a hurry to understand the problem. (3) transformation error, students are not careful in transforming questions into correct mathematical equations. (4) skill error process, students make a calculation error, wrong in addition, subtraction, multiplication, division and error operations in simplifying and solving equations. (5) encoding errors, students incorrectly write down answers that are considered to be examples, so that they result in incorrect conclusions and also students do not conclude answers to answer questions. Factors that cause students to experience errors in working on problems include: Students are not careful in reading questions, 6 lack of mastery of material, less careful in making mathematical models, students are not accustomed to writing answers to the questions asked, students are in a hurry so they do not check back the results of his work.
