Abstract
This research aims at describing the English learning difficulties faced by the students at the second year of SMP N 2 Pagentan, Banjarnegara in 2007/2008 academic year and the alternative solutions done for solving the students difficulties in learning English. The research was done on 13 December 2007 until 30 January 2008. This research is a descriptive qualitative study in which the data are interview script, field notes, score of pre-test and lesson plan. The writer gets the data from events, informant, and document. The techniques of collecting data are the observation and interview of the English learning difficulties faced by the students and the alternative solutions done for solving the students difficulties in learning English. The result of the research shows that the English learning difficulties faced by the students at the second year of SMP N 2 Pagentan Banjarnegara are: pronunciation, vocabulary, students interest. There some alternative solutions done for solving the students difficulties in learning English, namely for pronunciation, the teacher gave them motivation to practice their English in their daily life. For vocabulary, make simple conversation in English. For the students interests,the English teacher gave the students games and song in teaching process. This would improve their ability in English subject.
