Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of LPMK, constraints and solutions made to overcome the obstacles faced by the LPMK in improving the democratic attitude of the community in Gilingan Village, Banjarsari District, Surakarta Municipality in 2018. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive study. The data in this study are the role of LPMK in improving the democratic attitude of the community in Gilingan Village, Banjarsari District, Surakarta Municipality in 2018. The subjects in the study were the Village Head, the Head of the LPMK, the Regional Secretary, and the community in Gilingan Village, Banjarsari District, Surakarta Municipality. Data collection techniques in this study are interactive which includes interviews, observation, and documentation. Data validity techniques in this study use two types of triangulation, is of data sources and of methods or data collection techniques. Data analysis techniques in this study use interactive models. The results showed that: 1) The role of the LPMK in improving the democratic attitude of the community in Gilingan Village, Banjarsari Sub-district, Surakarta Municipality in 2018, including the LPMK giving the community freedom to express opinions, LPMK respecting differences of opinion, LPMK able to understand diversity in society, LPMK as an institution that upholds the value and dignity of humanity, and LPMK acts as an institution that always calls on people to respect each other.’ 2) Obstacles experienced by the LPMK, namely the performance of the village administration that is less open to the LPMK, the less educated people, the lack of participation from the community in Gilingan Village, Banjarsari Subdistrict, Surakarta Municipality, the lack of understanding from the government over the position of the LPMK in the Village, and the busyness of LPMK members outside his activities as a member of the LPMK.’ 3) Solutions to overcome the obstacles faced by the LPMK, namely holding coordination meetings with the village government, appealing to the community about the importance of their participation in each village government program, conducting discussions or regular meetings with RTs, RWs, and community leaders, conduct coordination meetings with the village government, and change the meeting schedule.
