Abstract

This study aims to describe the role of speech that contains the principle of Grice's cooperation with intrinsic elements in a collection of short stories Tawa Gadis Padang Sampah by Ahmad Tohari. This research is a qualitative descriptive study with the use of agih methods. The form of the principle of cooperation with Grice in the kumcer Tawa Gadis Padang Sampah by Ahmad Tohari found 61 data that consisted of 22 quality maxims, 16 implementation maxims, 14 maxims of relevance, 9 maxims of quantity. The role of speech that contains the principle of Grice's cooperation with intrinsic elements in the short story. The role of speech maximal quality supports elements of characterization, point of view, background, and plot. The role of the utterance maxim of speech supports the elements of characterization, point of view, background, flow, and mandate. The role of speech maximization of relevance supports elements of characterization, point of view, background, plot, and theme. The role of quantity maxim supports elements of characterization, point of view, plot and background.
