Abstract

Merawu Watershed Area is located in Banjarnegara Distric Central Java, that has flat until mountainous topography with various slope and rainfall 3000 – 5000 mm/year which possible causes erosion. This research was aimed to mapping the soil erosion at Merawu Watershed Area based on the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE) formula, using remote sensing imagery data landsat 8 OLI and by Geographical Information System (GIS) analysis, also to analyze erosion by the land units. USLE method were uses five parameters, those were erosivity index (R) from calculation of erosivity index value, erodibility index (K) from soil index, length and slope index (LS), crop management index (C) and land conservation index (P) from image interpretation and fiel check. An overlay process was done to obtain the final result, the erosion potential rate maps which categorized in five classes: very light, light, medium, heavy, and very heavy. The result showed that the erosion potentian rate at Merawu Watershed Area consist five classes, those are very light (1.218,33 hectares), light (826,75 hectares), medium (4.282,23 hectares), heavy (4.265,34 hectares), and very heavy (12.634,25 hectares). Batur, Pejawaran, Wanayasa, Karangkobar and Pegantan Sub-Distric which has very heavy erosion potential rate. From the result of analyst based on the land units, the greatest erosion rate in Merawu Watershed occur at HstRScTl is equal to 2.992,06 tonnes/ha/years.
