Abstract

The study aimed to understand and describe the causes of decision making of anonym identity users in social media of the students in Psychology faculty of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta. It used qualitative phenomenology approach meaning that it observed phenomena or condition on the field naturally. Symptoms in the study were those which would express the students’ decision making in choosing anonymous account in social media. The data were collected by interview. During collecting data, the writer analyzed the data by coding, finding theme, categorizing, and describing the categories. The purpose of the subjects using anonymous account was to stalking people. to share positive content, namely matters related to religion and motivational sentences of life and there are also subjects that aim to enter the web, it is illegal to see the crime of downloading files and free software. The reasons for the subjects using an anonymous account include: 1) In order to identify their true identity (name, origin, address, and other personal data), 2) to avoid being recognized by someone they already know, 3) not to be caught if they commit a crime, and 4 ) can do arbitrarily. Moreover, two of six subjects felt unsatisfied with their option of using anonymous account because they often felt anxious. Other subjects initiated to repair themselves and used their real account.
