Abstract

This study aims to describe the implications of denotative and connotative meanings as a teaching material in high school. (1) Explain the denotative meanings in the ILL Daily Solopos edition of September 2017, (2) describe connotative meanings in the ILO Daily Solopos edition of September 2017; This study used descriptive qualitative method. Sources of data on literature research in the form of literature data, namely Daily Ads Solopos edition of September 2017. Data collection in this study using techniques refer. Methods are seen by listening to the use of language. The basic technique in this research is the technique of separating the determinant element or PUP technique. The results of this study are (1) The September 2017 edition of the Solopos Daily Ad contains 24 denotative meanings that show a connection between the concept and the world of reality. (2) The September 2017 edition of the Solopos Daily Ad contains 27 connotative meanings consisting of 16 high connotations, 5 friendly connotations, 3 dangerous connotations, 2 inappropriate connotations, and 1 unpleasant connotation. (3) The results of the analysis of denotative and connotative meanings in the September 2017 Solopos daily advertising can be implemented into language and literature learning in high school. Learning materials are prepared based on content standards in the form of basic competencies 4.1 and 4.2 in class X semester two (even).
