Abstract

This study is aimed at verifying that the students’ attitudes to the English teaching influences on their English achievement at the second year students of SMP N 1 Bancak of Semarang Regency. The data are students’ attitude to English teaching and English achievement. The data are collected by giving the questionnaire to the second year students of SMP N 1 Bancak of Semarang Regency and by documenting English achievement from school grade report of the first semester and analyzed by using simple linear regression and simple correlation and T-test (hypothesis test) The result of the analysis shows that there is the influence between students’ attitude to English teaching and English achievement at the second year of SMP N 1 Bancak of Semarang Regency. It can be seen from the correlation coefficient (rxy) is more than r (table) (0.839>0.312) and from hypothesis test by using T-test is found that tvalue (9.505) is more than ttable (±2.021), it means that null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected and alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted, it means that students’ attitude to English teaching influences on their English achievement at the second year of SMP N 1 Bancak of Semarang Regency. It shows that the students who have more positive attitude have better achievement, and the students who have more negative attitude have worse achievement.
