Abstract
Batik Industry is one of the fastest growing industries that contributes to the economic growth in Indonesia. However, Batik production process produces various waste causing environmental pollution . Dye Remazol Red RB is one of various components in the batik liqud waste. The liquid waste composes of 10-15% Remazol Red RB that goes to the effluent causing serious problem to the environment. The aim of this study was to apply an electrochemical method at lab scale for decolorization of Remazol Red RB and the real effluent containing the dyes. The fast degradation of dyestuff mediated with electrogenerated active chlorine, it’s called Indirect electro-oxidation. This study used an electrolysis process in which graphite was used as electrode and NaCl as electrolyte solution. The electrolysis had been carried out based on variation of the electrolysis times up to 90 minutes and the pH of 2, 4, and 6. The result showed that the highest percentage of Remazol Red RB decolorization was 99.84% at pH 4 with a time of 90 minutes, and 86.21% decoloriztion for the real effluent.
