Abstract

The objectives of this research are: (1) to describe the use of the redundant form in the text description of the students of grade VII SMP Muhamaadiyah 1 Kartasura (2) to examine the factors causing the use of redundant forms in the description of the students of grade (3) forms of wastefulness as teaching materials at school. This research uses qualitative descriptive method. The data of this research is the result of text description. Technique of data collecting is done by applying technique, referring, record, and interview. Technique of data analysis is done by using technique of dissappear and method of agih. Duck technique is a technique to determine the level of keynithms of unsure which is disappeared. While the method is a method that the tool narrator precisely on the part of the language in question itself. The results of this study indicate that in the activity of making up the description of students still found a redundant sentence. The redundant forms of sentence are: (1) redundancy of the word copula, (2) redundancy of two or more synonymous words, (3) redundancy of two plural statements, (4) redundancy of parallel repetition, (5). The use of redundant forms is caused by several factors, among others: lack of students' understanding of good writing, low vocabulary mastery, the influence of regional languages, and a lack of understanding of students about effective writing
