Abstract

Self-esteem is used to make judgments about itself and as a personality shaper, and is used to interact with others in their environment. When the individual is able to assess himself positively, then the individual can interact with his environment well. Factors that can help establish a positive self-esteem. One of the factors in question is with the support that comes from the immediate environment of the individual is the support of the family. The TNI retirees face a new environment and atmosphere. The hypothesis is that there is a positive relationship between family support and self-esteem. The subject of this study amounted to 61 retired TNI domiciled in Karanganyar District. Sampling technique in this research using cluster Sampling. Data collection in this study used the scale of family support and self-esteem scale. Hypothesis test this time using Product Moment correlation techniques to determine the relationship between independent variables and dependent variables. The result of data analysis found correlation coefficient (rxy) = 0,81 and significance (p) = 0,000; p <0.01. These results indicate that there is a positive and very significant relationship between family support and self-esteem. This research also proves that there is a significant positive correlation between family support and self-esteem. The effective contribution of family support to self-esteem is 66%.
