Abstract

The aim of this research are to study the content of briquettes of straw with variation of binder when tested proximate, to know mass density and specific gravity, and to know the calorific value contained in briquettes. The main ingredients in this research are straw with mesh size 20. The binding materials used are coconut shell tar, starch, and oil. The weight of the briquette with the binder mixture is 120 grams. Bricket printing using pressure of 100 kg /cm 2 . Comparison of fingers with binder in this study 1: 1. In testing of the straw briquettes, it was carried out that included ASTM D-3174 as ASTM D-3175, ASTM D-3175 standard, volatile matter with ASTM D-3175 standard, fixed carbon with ASTM D-3172 standard specificity standard ASTM D-2395, mass meetings, and heating value using ASTM D-2015 standards. The oil binder material dominates the highest values in some test such as ash content of 18.45%, volatile matter 72.77%, water content 7.82%, specificity gravity 0.74, 0.62 gr/cm 3 mass density, and value caloric 6361,543 cal/gram. However, in the test the highest bound carbon value obtained 18.39% in tar binder.
