Abstract

Back ground: Empathy is the ability to sharing and understanding the condition or situation that generally showed with “put oneself into another’s shoes”, which is means to the ability in take someone perspective and other emotion into their self, that isthe foundation of nursing practice, which also the fundamental to able to understand the need, feeling, and patients problem. The measuring toward nurse empathy level is necessary to know how well the nurse in giving care with empathy. Aim: To describe the empathy level of nursing student while giving care prosedure to simulation patient in OSCA. Research Methodology: This research is quantitative with cross-sectional descriptive model. The sample was 125 nursing students in the second year (4th semester) who were focusing on OSCA on Surgical Medical Nursing. The tool that used to assess was Consultation and Relational Empathy (CARE). Result: Female nursing students empathy (68.8%) is higher than male (62.5%). The students empathy in late adolescence age group (59.4%) is lower than in early adulthood age group (69.9%). The majority of respondents have high empathy level (64%). Conclusion: student’s empathy is different from their sex, and age.
