Abstract
Indigofera is used as a blue dye because it contains glycosides indican. Indigo blue color is extracted from the leaves by using a solvent of aquades. Allumunium sulphate were used as mordants so that the fat, starch, oil, and debris left on the weaving process can be removed lostbecause it has watersoluble properties. The mordanting process is divided into pre-mordan (mordan introduction), meta-mordanting (mordan meta), and post mordan (final mordan). Pre-mordanting process is carried out by dyeing the material with metal compound first and then after washing the material dyed with dyestuff. The independent variables and used in this research were temperature of 40,60, and 90° C, pH of 3,4, and 5, and time of 15, 30, and 60 minutes. The dependent variable was the color strength of the cotton cloth while the control variables were cotton, the dye solution ratio, and the dyeing frequency was 3 times. It can be concluded that the best result in pre-mordanting process was obtained at pH of 5,temperature of 40˚C and time of 15 minutes. The absorbance value under these conditions had a good degree of stability and showed the highest value so the colors produced were good.
