Abstract

The objectives of this research are to describe the implementation of School level-based Curriculum in the teaching of English to the first year student of Junior High School and also the problems and the benefits of it. This research was undertaken in SMPN 2 Batang. The subjects of the research are the teachers and the first year students especially in the class VII A. The writer collected the data of the research through observation, document analysis, and interview. The result of the data analysis shows that in the teaching-learning process the teachers always opened with greeting, then continued by classroom activities such as lesson the materials include speaking, reading, writing, and listening, and the last is closed by greeting. In the classroom the teacher and the students show a good interaction because he has to make him lesson enjoyable. There were also some problems that faced by the teachers and also the benefits of the implementation of School level-based Curriculum in English teaching learning process. Those problems are not all teachers or headmasters are able to design curriculum, not all school committee or Department of National education’s officer are understand the method of designing a good curriculum, and the confusion of SLBC implementation. The benefits of implementation SLBC are the teachers have opportunity to design curriculum according the own desire to adapted of the student ability. Besides, the students get good services which have values of development, enrichment, and acceleration based on their potency. The writer concludes that the implementation of School level-based Curriculum in teaching of English to the first year student of SMPN 2 Batang runs well. The children can absorb the materials well and have a good result.
