Abstract
Bay leaves and basil leaves were alternative medicines that can be used as anti-inflammatory. This study aimed to increase the anti-inflammatory potential of a combination of bay leaf and basil leaves ethanol extract by comparing each single extract. This study used wistar strain male rats which were divided into 5 groups: 0.5% CMC Na, Na-Diklofenac 0.45mg / kgW, basil leaves 50mg / kgW, basil leaves 50mg / kgW, and bay leaves 50mg / kgW with basil leaves 50mg / kgW. The rats tested the hyperuricemia model with a purine-high diet treatment, induced 1 ml 0.1% carrageenan by subplantar one hour after extract treatment and control and tested every 30 minutes for 6 hours. Data obtained from the AUC values were analyzed using SPSS ANOVA test and Tukey test went with 95% confidence level. The results showed that there was a significant difference between the combination of bay leaves and basilis ethanol extract with the single extract. The anti-inflammatory power of the combination of bay leaves and basil ethanol extract of 22.99% ± 3.81, the value of anti-inflammatory from the ethanol extract of bay leaves and basil leaves were 10.86% ± 2.44; 11.14% ± 3.40, while the results for positive control of Na-Diclofenac was 55.43% ± 5.59. In this study it was concluded that the combination ethanol extract of bay leaf with basil leaves or single extract was able to reduce the foot inflammation of mice induced by carrageenan, but the potential was smaller compared to Na-diclofenac.
