Abstract
Panekan Sub-district is one of the largest coffee planting centers in Magetan Regency, with an area of 688.85 km2. Panekan Subdistrict is a part of Magetan Regency located at the foot of Mount Lawu, precisely located in the north of Magetan regency. The area has a varied topography and a rather steep slope. Coffee development efforts continue to be intensified, but in 2016 - 2017 there is a problem found in the cultivation of coffee crops in Panekan District in the form of decreased production of coffee. There is a decrease in the number of coffee harvest in 2016 - 2017, it is necessary to be studied further in order to be handled appropriately. Therefore, it is necessary to test the suitability of the land to know and analyze the potential suitability of coffee plant land, increasing the number of coffee plant production and limiting factors, especially in Kecamatan Panekan because of its potential location for coffee crops. Evaluation of land suitability is done by comparing the quality of land in each unit of land map rules that have been determined. In essence, the evaluation of land suitability focus on the land to be studied whether appropriate to the living conditions of a plant or not. This research uses survey method, Determination of location for soil sampling is determined by stratified sampling based on strata of land unit that is each unit of land represented by one sample which is done by observation, measurement, and sampling of soil. Map processing is done with the help of GIS application of ArcView program. After all the data collected, both primary data, secondary and laboratory analysis then the next is data processing by matching that is comparing the requirements of land suitability class requirements for coffee plants with the characteristics of the land in the study area. The result of this research is from 10 units of land in the study area has two land suitability class, that is class S1: Very Match spread on three unit of land that is F13 II Mc Sw, V2 V AK S, V9 III LC K. And class S2 : Sufficient according to the scattered in five units of land ie F14 II Mc Sw, V2 IV LC K, V2 IV LC T, V2 V AK T, V9 III LC Sw.
