Abstract
This research is aimed at describing the teaching learning process at the second year. The object of the study is oral cycle based on genre based Curriculum in the second year students of language programs in SMPN II Jatipurno. This research is to reveal kinds of technique, procedure in oral cycle and problem faced by the teacher and students in implementation of genre based approach. In this research, the writer conducts ethnographic research which describes the implementation of genre based approach in teaching speaking. The data comprise of activities in teaching speaking, information from English teacher had master and students, and curriculum in SMP N II Jatipurno Wonogiri. The methods and collecting data are observation, documentation, interview, and field notes. Procedures for analyzing data are reducing the data, display of data, and verification. The result of this research shows that the procedure used by the teacher at SMPN II Jatipurno Wonogiri is appropriate with the theory of Genre. There are two pattern; BKOF-MOT-JCOT-ICOT and the second pattern is BKOF-MOT-JCOT. This research also shows the kinds of classroom activities in each stage. In BKOF, the activities are asking question and giving explanation. In MOT, giving model of text is activities; in JCOT, the activity is making group in doing activities; students work individually in ICOT. The research also shows the problems faced by the teacher, namely the first the problems in vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and fluency and the second difficulty in managing the class.
