Abstract
Impacted tooth is a state of tooth which is hidden or does not erupt partially or wholly. Impacted tooth can form of tooth which its development is blocked by nearby teeth, bones, or surrounding soft tissues whether partially or wholly. Impacted tooth can occurs on several teeth, but the tooth which frequently undergoes impaction is third molars. The occurrence of tooth impaction is caused by several factors such as genetics, endocrinological disorder, palatal fissure, radiation, supernumerary teeth, trauma, early extraction, ectopic position existence, and odontogenic tumor. Some sources explain that inherited genetic factors have a large role in dental impaction events. This research is attempted to determine positive relationship between impaction status on third molars of parents and impaction status on third molars of children of Javanese ethnic group. The design of this research uses observational analytical with cross-sectional approach. This research involves 19 families with 57 respondents of Javanese ethnic undergoing clinic examination, afterwards, the panoramic radiography examination is done to determine the status of impacted third molars. The result of correlation test of contingency coefficient shows that there is significant correlation between two variables examined with p=0,018 (p<0,05). This result can be interpreted that impaction status on parents’ third molars has impact on the risk of occurrence of third molar tooth impaction on children. The result of coefficient correlation obtained for 0,554, this result showa that there is strong correlation between impaction status on parents’ third molars with impaction status on childrens’ third molars by the direction of a positive relationship. The conclusion of this research is that there is relationship between impaction of third molars of parents on impaction status of third molars of children of Javanese ethnic group.
