Abstract
This research is motivated by the number of students who get poor grades in mathematics subjects. According to learners math subjects are not fun to learn. This study aims to determine the effect of mathematics learning with portfolio assessment combined with peer tutoring method in junior high school students in Surakarta. Data collecting techniques in this study with test methods, interviews with students and documentation in the form of photographs. Technical analysis of data by using data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. Based on the study of effective portfolio assessment in the learning process. In addition to learners can find out the location of errors that exist in their work, they can also learn to be more active in learning because in the process of assessment of learners participate as well. When teachers implement peer tutoring methods, enthusiastic learners are extraordinary. Learners learn as learners communicate well to their friends because they have to deliver the material well. On the contrary, group members are no less enthusiastic because they can more easily understand what their friends are saying. The conclusion of this research is portfolio assessment using peer tutor method is very effective used in learning process.
