Abstract

The aim of this study is to improve the mathematical connection of students through the model of Problem Based Learning on students of class VIII C SMP Negeri 1 Jenawi. The type of research used is classroom action research. The subject of the research is the mathematic teacher of class VIII C as the subject that gives the action and 24 students consisting of 12 female and 12 male as subjects who receive the action. The classroom action research is implemented in two cycles of two meetings. The technique of data collection is observation, field notes, test methods, documentation and interviews. The technique of data analysis uses collecting data, reducing data, displaying data and conclusing. To check the validity of data, the researcher uses triangulation investigator. The result shows an improving in mathematical connection with indicators: 1) students are able to recognize the relationships between ideas in mathematics before action 20.83%, in the cycle I 38.89% and in cycle II 42.86%. 2) students are able to understand the interconnected mathematical ideas before the action 50%, in the cycle I 72.22% and on the second cycle 76.19%. 3) students are able to apply mathematical ideas before action 29.17%, on cycle I 50% and in cycle II 57.14%.
