Abstract
Cassava drying is done manually (conventionally) that is by utilizing solar light energy or in drying so take a long time, and very dependent with the condition of the weather around, while the result of this matter cause the water content of product is not uniform, and the resulting dry cassava capacity is limited because it requires a large area in the drying process as well as the cost for operational is not small. From the problems encountered there needs to be a mechanical dryer which can help the drying process faster. The drying equipment I want to make is a simple Rotary dryer type dryer. Device design using variation of mass flow rate and drying process time on fin cylinder with time 25 and 30 minutes. Data produced after the research done on the fin cylinder time of 25 minutes test results obtained temperature changes that is 736,02⁰C, 700,24⁰C, 662,58⁰C, 640,02⁰C. The heat produced is 2033,37 W, 2003,90 W, 1934,53 W dan 1871,52 W. the results of cassava mass reduction of 0,30 Kg, 0,28 Kg, 0,24 Kg and 0,21 Kg. Efficiency gained that is 34,89%, 34,52%, 33,46% dan 32,47%. While on the fin cylinder 30 minutes testing time obtained results temperature changes that is 586,37⁰C, 626,97⁰C, 766,50⁰C, 517,30⁰C. The heat produced is 2324,38 W, 2228,24 W, 2112,05 W dan 2038,38 W. the results of cassava mass reduction of 0,37 Kg, 0,36 Kg, 0,23 Kg and 0,19 Kg. Efficiency obtained is 39,62%, 37,92%, 36,12% dan 35,08%.. The results showed that cylinders used fin time of 25 minutes better test used in drying process because the resulted data is bigger than fin cylinder 30 minutes test time. The longer the drying process leads to a larger reduction in cassava mass and the resulting heat will also increase and efficiency tends to rise as it does not lose heat significantly.
