Abstract
Soil becomes the basic part of building a structure. There are some problems that occur in the construction of roads or buildings, such as structural damage in the buildings due to excessive settlement or differential settlement. If the construction build on that soil there will be damage to the construction of the building such as cracks in roads, bridges, plate structure damage, foundation damage, settlement and other damage. If the soil has a problem it should be improved by improving its properties. A solution for soil improvement by using vertical drainage, which utilizes concrete waste as a content material for vertical drainage. In this research using variations diameter for the vertical drainage is 10 cm, 15 cm and 20 cm. And variation of distance for sampling is 16.67 cm, 33.33 cm and 50 cm. Testing of soil samples after installation of vertical drainage with concrete waste material is consolidation test, to obtain the value of coefficient of consolidation (Cv), compression index (Cc) and consolidation settlement (Sc). The result of the research using concrete waste for vertical drainage material content obtained the value of Cv, Cc and Sc against original soil, in 10 cm column the value of Cv 68.662%, Cc 29.892% and Sc 26.008%. In 15 cm column value of Cv 84.725%, Cc 44.850% and Sc 43952. In 20 cm column value of Cv 93.628%, Cc 58.115% and Sc 49.731%. From the three differences in diameter of vertical drainage using concrete waste can be seen that using 20 cm diameter more effective for soil improvement in Troketon Village, Pedan District, Klaten District.
