Abstract
Lecture activities in the classrooms of FKI UMS always use AC (air conditioner) whose operation is still done locally through a remote control that is available in every classroom. With the many classrooms that exist, this local way is quite burdensome for employees who are in charge of managing the AC. This fact raises the idea of making an AC remote (i.e. off classroom) control system. In this final project a prototype of such system was realized by utilizing Arduino Mega 2560 as the controlling device, UMS wifi network as the communication channel, and smartphone or computer as the user interface provider. Steps to realize it followed the stages in the prototyping method, which consists of requirement analysis, prototype development, and prototype testing. The built hardware circuit consists of Arduino Mega 2560 equipped with IR receiver, IR transmitter, LDR, and temperature sensor. The software used were Arduino IDE, Notepad ++, Apache, Mysql, and PHP. The resulting user interface consists of responsive web pages that provide buttons like those on the AC remote control, plus information about room temperature and AC status. All the buttons on the web pages work in accordance with their functions, with 100% accuracy from 17 experiments. The furthest possible distance between the hardware circuit and the AC is 8 meters without obstructions. This system will facilitate employees in managing the AC operation in every FKI UMS classroom, and at the same time can improve the efficiency of electricity usage.
