Abstract
The research aimed to describe: (1) the type of errors made by students in solving the contextual problems of linear equations system of three variables (2) factors that cause students to make errors (3) alternative solutions to reduce student errors. The type of this research is descriptive qualitative research. The subjects of this study are the students of grade X BB SMA Negeri 1 Kartasura which amounted to 32 students. Data collection techniques used are tests, interviews, and documentation. The analytical framework was developed based on Newman's error analysis. The result of this research was (1) comprehention errors caused by the lack of understanding of the students with the questions posed in the problem (2) transformation error caused by the lack of understanding of the material and not understanding the concept of the given problem (3) process skill errors caused because the student is less accurate in performing the counting operation and tends to rush in solving the problem (4) encoding errors because the student does not write the final answer and does not understand the problem well.
