Abstract

This study aims to: know the improvement of critical thinking skills and mathematical communication of students using Think Talk Write (TTW) learning model with Open Ended Approach. This type of research is Classroom Action Research (PTK). The subject of the recipients of the action are the students of class XI of Machinery C SMK N 2 Karanganyar, amounting to 32 students and the subject of the action is the teacher of mathematics class XI Machining C. Data collection techniques are done through tests, observations, field notes and documentation. Data analysis technique is done descriptively qualitative with cycle model, that is data analyzed since learning action implemented and developed during learning process. The results of this study indicate an increase in the ability of critical thinking and mathematical communication of students. This can be seen from the indicators of critical thinking, namely: (1) students 'critical thinking ability increased from 34.37% to 87.50%, (2) students' mathematical communication ability increased from 40.62% to 90.62% . From the results of the study it can be concluded that: (1) The use of Think Talk Write (TTW) learning model with Open Ended Approach on the subject of opportunity can improve students' critical thinking ability, and (2) Use of Think Talk Write (TTW) learning model with Open Ended Approach to the subject of opportunity can improve students' mathematical communication.
