Abstract
ABSTRACT The diminishing supply of fossil fuels requires the automotive industry to innovate to improve engine efficiency. The incorporation of mild steel and aluminum with zinc filler on the body of the vehicle is expected to reduce the load of the engine so as to improve the efficiency. This research was conducted to know the effect of zinc powder filler on welded joints of different points of material mild steel and aluminum to mechanical strength of the connection. Welding of specimen with filler and without filler is done with current parameter 6000A, 7000A, 8000A, welding time 0,2 s, 0,3 s, 0,4 s. The test results obtained the most optimal strength and hardness on specimens using filler with variation of 8000A current and 0.4 second welding time. There are two types of the same pattern of failure occur in the specimen without filler or use the filler is interfacial failure and pull out failure. Hardness in the nugget area has the highest value followed by the HAZ area and the lowest hardness in the parent metal region. From the analysis results obtained that the addition of zinc filler increase the strength and hardness of welded joints. Keywords: Las Point, Different Material, Zinc Filler, Mechanical Test
