Abstract

Background: Blood pressure measurement is one of the early detection of risk factors for non-communicable diseases such as hypertension. According to the Framingham Heart Study that 78% of hypertension in men and 65% of hypertension in women are related to obesity. While one way of measuring obesity can be used waist circumference and waist circumference ratio. Objective: To know the relationship between waist circumference and waist circumference ratio with blood pressure. Method: Cross sectional observational analytic study. Sampling method with purposive sampling as many as 51 members of TNI Kodim 0735 Surakarta who has met the inclusion criteria. Data were measured from waist circumference and hip circumference with centimeter tape, measuring blood pressure using a sphygmomanometer and stethoscope. Results: The statistical analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between waist circumference and blood pressure (p = 0,028) and there was a relationship between hip waist ratio with blood pressure (p = 0,034) in TNI member of Kodim 0735 Surakarta. Conclusion: Waist circumference and waist circumference ratio are related to blood pressure.
