Abstract

A three-dimensional obturation and complete coronal and apical seal is one the important aims of root canal treatment. A tight apical seal is desired to prevent bacteria and their by-products from invading the apex and to prevent apical leakage. Apical leakage is considered to be the common cause for endodontic failure. Several technique was introduced for obturation of root canal. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of obturation technique on the risk of apical leakage and to evaluate vertical condensation cause the lowest risk of apical leakage. This study was a laboratory experimental with post-test only control group design. The sample used in this study was extracted permanent mandibular first premolar teeth, its amounts 27 samples which were divided into 3 groups: lateral condensation technique, vertical condensation technique, single-cone technique. The risk of apical leakage tested using a spectrofotometri uv-vis. The result showed the difference of the average value between three groups os samples. Obturation technique that had lowest the risk of apical leakage was vertical condensation technique 0,045 Abs. The difference effect was measured using data analysis One way ANOVA and LSD. The result showed that the difference in the effect of all tested samples p=0,000 (p<0,05). The conclusions of this study were had an effect obturation technique on the risk of apical leakage and vertical condensation technique cause the lowest risk of apical leakage.
