Abstract
Background: Investation of Ascaris sp. have a serious impact on patients and society. The prevalence of intestinal worms in Indonesia was still very high, especially in poor communities with bad sanitation. Indonesian people have known traditional medicine that can be used as anthelmintic, such as papaya roots (Carica papaya L.). The papaya root extract contains papain, tannin and saponins that have anthelmintic effects. Objective: To investigate the efficacy of papaya roots extract (Carica papaya L.) on the death of Ascaris suum. Method: This study was an experimental laboratory with post only controlled group design. The subjects wereAscaris suumworms. Papaya root extracts with the concentrations of 10%, 20%, and 50% were tested for their anthelmintic activity by dipping the worms into the treatment solution. Observations were made every 2 hours until all the worms die 100%.The data were analyzed withstatistical software for Windows. Result: Papaya roots extract hadan anthelmintic effect againts Ascaris suum(studi in vitro). The result of p <0,05 in post-hoc analysis of LSD (Least Significant Diference) so that there is significant difference between negative control group and treatment group. Conclusion: It was concluded that papaya roots extract has an anthelmintic effect againts Ascaris suum.
