Abstract
City branding is an effort or strategy from a city to create strong positioning in both global or regional, city branding also have strong connection with city planning to strengthen marketing position in both regional or global relating to marketing all aspect that city had and all of the supporting activity and cultural within the city, in city branding all the tourism department of Demak district do to promote religion tourism in Demak, is using “Demak Kota Wali” slogan. Meaning from those slogan is, Demak that depicts the history of the first Islamic civilization in Java Island brought by Wali Songo in islam deployment across Java Island, so Demak people stick in their religious culture, besides introducing Demak as a religious tourism destination, branding made by the tourism department also has motivation or another purposes, that is for increasing the regional income, increasing local people’s economy and to build a common prosperity between citizens and cities. Demak city branding use various traditional media and new media, the new media that is used is an official Instagram account managed by government ie @dinaspariwisata_demak that become most affective media to promote and introduce Demak tourism as a religion tourism. This research is classified as qualitative type research with descriptive approach model data collecting technique that researcher used to obtain valid data with in-depth interviews and documents. In-depth interviews were conducted face to face with tourism department staff and social media administrator of @dinaspariwisata_demak in Instagram., this research resulted a finding that Demak using city branding with four strategies identity, objective communication, coherence.
