Abstract
This study aims to improve students' mathematical communication skills in mathematics subject matter The Pythagoras theorem uses a Multiple Representation Discourse learning model on VIII C students of SMP Negeri 1 Tasikmadu Karanganyar, amounting to 32 students. This type of research is a classroom action research. The data collection method used is the method of observation and test. Assistive methods used were interviews, documentation, and field notes. Implementation of action research as much as two cycles. Data analysis was done descriptively qualitative. The results of this study indicate an increase in the percentage of students' mathematical communication skills. After the students get treatment using learning model of Multiple Representation Discourse, the result of the percentage of students' mathematical communication ability orally has successively increase from Pre Cycle - Cycle I - Cycle II that is 42,98% - 61,72% - 74,90 %, and the percentage of students' mathematical communication ability in writing successively increase from Pre Cycle - Cycle I - Cycle II that is 52,73% - 69,33% - 87,11%. In addition to improving students' mathematical communication abilities, based on the study there is also an increase in learning outcomes observed in terms of average grade test scores and the percentage of complete grade test scores. Observed the average grade test scores had a successive increase from the Pre Cycles - Cycle I - Cycle II ie 56.13 - 70.42 - 76.61 and for the percentage of completeness of successive grade test grades from Pre Cycles - Cycle I - Cycle II is 12.50% - 53.13% - 71.88%.
