Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of SS and Al filler on the welded joints of dissimilar material. This study combines 1.2 mm thick aluminum and 1 mm stainless steel with powder filler through 100 meshing process then mixed with SS ratio (80%) and Al (20%). The standard used for specimen preparation is ASME QW-462.9. In this research used welding spot machine with current variation of 6000 A, 7000 A, 8000 A with welding time 0,2 second, 0,3 second, 0,4 second. The tests performed were shear testing using ASME QW-462.9 testing standards and for hardness tests using AWS D8.9-97 testing standards. Test results on shear stress and two types of failures that occur in specimens without filler or filler use, inter-facial failure is a failure mode that occurs through crack propagation through the nuggets, and pull out failure is a failure mode that occurs through the withdrawal of nuggets. For hardness test results obtained that the most optimal hardness results found in the area of weld metal (nugget) on specimens using a filler with a current of 8000 A and time of 0.4 seconds. From the analysis result, it is found that the addition of SS and Al filler has little effect on the strength of the welded joint.
