Abstract

Fossil fuels currently its existence is increasingly rare, and necessary steps are search for fuels to replace petroleum fuels, especially gasoline, which needs very much to a motor vehicle. One of the alternative fuel substitute for gasoline is bioethanol (BE). The purpose of this research is to analyze how engine performance and level exhaust emission of vehicle from variation in the most optimal spark plug type by using bioethanol fuel from cassava raw material. From the test results show that by using bioethanol fuel, power and torque generated from the engine increases with the increase of bioethanol content in the fuel mixture. Then on fuel consumption is more efficient by using fuel 30% BE, this is based on distance by using fuel 30% BE farther than using fuel 100% pertalite. While the results of the exhaust emission on the vehicle show that by using fuel bioethanol exhaust emissions genereted decreases the increasing as the increase of bioethanol in fuel mixture than on the exhaust emissions generated by using fuel 100% pertalite. And proved by statistical data analysis method with one way ANOVA Varian (F test) for power, torque and HC emissions levels, got F value count < F table, then Ho is accepted, so that the result of each variation of fuel there is no difference significant. But for the CO, we get F count > F table, then Ho is rejected, so the result of each variation of fuel there is a difference significant.
