Abstract
This research is aimed at analyzing the implementation of recount text technique in speaking English class using telling unforgettable story method at the first year of SMU Negeri 8 Surakarta. This research is Classroom Action Research. The data are taken from observation, test, and interview. The subject of the study is the students in the first year of SMU Negeri 8 Surakarta and the object is speaking skill by using recount texts through telling unforgettable story. The result of study shows that the students’ ability in speaking skill of recount text is good. More than a half of the students achieve this category that is 7.00 in the cycle I and 8, 75 in cycle 2. Recount text becomes a simple method in teaching speaking skill because recount text technique using unforgettable story is an interesting and attracting material for the students. The students give more response in their unforgettable story or tale. That’s why their speaking skill is improved faster in cycle 2 and the students’ ability in pronunciation, intonation, and grammar is good even there is still any difficulty to spell a new and strange word. It proves that the students only use an English daily language or a simple language
