Abstract

People with HIV / AIDS will experience all psychological reactions such as shock, denial and anger, withdrawal and depression, open up, make friends, and eventually accept the situation. In the face of all the psychological reactions, individuals with high-end personalities will have self-control, commitment and ability to face challenges so that when there are changes in and outside of life it will be seen as an opportunity to grow and not as a threat to itself. The resilience possessed by HIV / AIDS sufferers will provide a positive relationship with the physical and mental disorders. This study aims to determine the description of personality hardiness in people with HIV / AIDS and the factors that influence the formation of personality hardiness in people with HIV / AIDS. Research subjects as many as three people who are HIV / AIDS sufferers with age 30 - 45 years who live in Yayasan Rumah Singgah Lentera Surakarta. Subject search is done by using purposive sampling technique. This research uses qualitative approach method of phenomenology. Method of data retrieval used is semi structured interview with additional data using questionnaire of hardiness personality scale. This research uses inductive data analysis. The results of the study show that the personality image of hardiness in HIV / AIDS sufferers is able to involve themselves in activities that have been faced, able to control the various actions taken, and able to see a change that occurs as an opportunity to develop themselves. While the factors that influence the formation of personality hardiness in people with HIV / AIDS is the mastery of experience, positive feelings, warm or supportive relationships, social support, self-acceptance, a sense of sincerity and gratitude.
