Abstract

ABSTRACT Introduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) Is a chronic disease characterized by increased blood sugar levels. Accompanist complaint arises from chronic complications are experience and managed a complex diabetes can affect the patient’s physiological and psychiligical condition. One of the psychological disorder that can appear is depression Method of Research: This research aim to know the description of the level of depression in patients with diabetes mellitus accompanist complaint in Dr. Moewardi Surakarta hospital. This research is descriptive research survey conducted on 98 respondens with accidental sampling technique in Dr. Moewardi hospital. Data collection research using questionnaires BDI-II with 21 items. Futher descriptive analysis is done Conclusion: (1) the characteristics of diabetic patients in Dr. Moewardi hospital is older than 60 years of age, female, high school educated, as a housewife, experiencing diabetes mellitus less than 10 years, get a good family support, and had 2 diabetic companion complaint where the most experienced companion complaint of patient is haigh blood pressure. (2) the level of depression in diabetes mellitus patients in Dr. Moewardi is mostly minimal depression. (3) the result of cross-tabulation indicates the number of complaints is at most two accompanist with a level of depression is at most minimal. Advice: Reseacher hope the Dr. Moewardi Surakarta hospital can improve service by providing health promotion about depression and how to prevention especially in patients of diabetes mellitus Keywords: companion complaint, depression, diabetes mellitus
