Abstract
Mixing asphalt emulsion with aggregate need to be added to water to ease the process of mixing. In this research to accelerate the process of evaporation of water in the mix, then the water used for mixing are replaced by thinner. The mixture of asphalt emulsion in research using the gradations over time or Dense Graded Emulsion Mix (DGEM). The purpose of this research is to know the level of optimum asphalt asphalt emulsion and know how the addition of thinner and the addition of the time curing on asphalt emulsion mixtures against DGEM characteristics. The research began by testing all the ingredients to fit the specifications of the already determined. Phase selanjurnya are looking for the optimum compaction water content was determined by using standard proctor and aggregate mixtures modified with gradations DGEM type IV. The next stage of finding the optimum levels of residue bitumen with a variation of 6%, 6.5%, 7%, 7.5%, and 8% against the asphalt emulsion mixtures using Marshall Test. Stage thereafter is mixing asphalt emulsion with aggregates, water is added to the mixing replaced with thinner amounting to 0%, 50%, and 100% of the optimum compaction water content, and then tested using the Marshall Test with variations of long storage of 4, 8, and 12 days. The last stage is analyzing the data and then summed up the results of the research. Based on the results of the research of the influence of the addition of thinner asphalt emulsion mix on yield stability and value Quotient increased Marshall along with the addition of thinner levels. Research on addition of thinner 0%, 50%, and 100% during 12 days of storage obtained the value of Stability of 610.54 kg; 751.31 kg; 869.44 kg, and Marshall value Quotient of 100.41 kg/mm; 117.08 kg/mm; and 223.33 kg/mm. The result of the value flow and VIM decreases with the addition of thinner levels and prolonged storage. Research on addition of thinner 0%, 50%, and 100% during 12 days of storage obtained value flow of 6.10 mm; 4.25 mm; 3.90 mm, and the value of the VIM of 8.16%; 5.39%; and 4.21%.
