Abstract
The metal will undergo phase change during the casting process, either the physical or mechanical changes caused by the freezing process. This change in properties is influenced by the cooling medium used during the cooling process. Because the physical and mechanical properties of a metal are very important in machining construction. In this study used different cooling media, namely: sea water, well water, and SAE 40 oil. The purpose of this research is to compare the physical and mechanical properties of brass casting with different cooling media. From the hardness testing of the specimen to the sea water well refrigerant medium has a better hardness value compared to the well water and SAE 40 oil. From the result of testing the chemical composition there are 18 elements, but only the 4 most influential element in the cast brass Cu, Zn, Fe, and Sn the most dominan. Judging from the element present in this material can be classified metal brass zinc alloy.
