Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of diameter of descending channel to shrinkage, porosity defect, density, hardness and micro photo. The raw materials of this research are used aluminum or rosok from various components which are re-casted. In this study will be examined the diameter of the descending channel 14 mm, 18 mm, 22mm. Tests to be performed include depreciation test, density test, porosity observation, chemical test, brinell hardness test (ASTM standard E 10), and micro photo test (ASTM standard E 3). The results showed that the highest mean shrinkage was found in the diameter of the 22 mm duct (sprue) of 7,71%, while the diameter of the descending channel (sprue) 18 mm 6,659% and the diameter of the 14 mm drop channel was 6,191%. The highest density result is in sprue diameter 22 mm 2,590 and sprue diameter 18 mm equal to 2,576, and got the lowest density value at 14 mm diameter sprue 2,567. The chemical composition found in Alumunium (Al) 87.10% as the main material, and Silicon (Si) 9.51%, so that from the existing elements of this material including aluminum alloy silicon (Al-Si). The highest hardness was found in 22 mm diameter sprue of 108 (HBN), while the sprue diameter 18 mm 103 (HBN) and sprue diameter 14 mm were 82,5 (HBN) Keywords: Sprue, shrinkage, porosity,density, aluminum alloy, hardness, micro photo.
